Summer Camps 2020 Update

LCU Summer Camp Family,

There are certain expectations we have with every season of the year. We know it’s fall when we experience Friday night football games; we anticipate Christmas when we begin to see lights on houses in winter; we see the grass green up and flowers bloom in the spring, and we know that summer is right around the corner. Along with sunny days and swimming pools, one of the staples of summer is LCU Summer Camps. Encounter and Camp Champion are filled with worship, relationships, and growth in Christ. The campus of Lubbock Christian University comes alive with the voices of teens, sponsors, and youth ministers. For one week, we gather at our home away from home.

The anticipation of those experiences is very real. But a new reality is that the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown our world into chaos changing our plans and the routines in all of our lives.

In response to this international pandemic, those of us responsible for LCU camps have been forced to ask ourselves difficult questions about summer activities on the LCU campus. As believers, we recognize our calling to follow Christ and to stand in the gap for others. And we believe we are called to be citizens of heaven, but to also be ambassadors to the world.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce that our on-campus summer camps have been suspended for the summer of 2020. Please know that this very difficult decision was made with prayerful consideration and with your health and safety in mind.

While this summer may have changed, we have put in place plans to stay connected to you.

  • Encounter Online - on June 7th at 7:00 PM. During this event Josh, Katie, and Marty will be giving away prizes, we will have a time of worship with Thomas Aduddell and Best Friends, and we will hear from our very own David Fraze! While this will be different from the normal Encounter experience, it will be a unique way of connecting and hearing from our Encounter team!
  • LCU Summer Camp Worship and Lessons – Following Encounter Online we will send out a series of video links to the churches who are a part of our LCU Summer Camp family. These videos will contain worship and a lesson from an Encounter/Camp Champion teacher. Churches can use these videos any way they like! We hope you enjoy them and are excited to see some familiar faces!
  • Encounter LE is coming back for the fall of 2020! Lubbock Christian University is inviting all middle school and high school students to come to campus in November to hear from some of your favorite teachers, keynotes and enjoy a time of worship and growth together. You do not want to miss this! Dates to be announced soon.

With regards to this summer, LCU Summer Camps will provide each camper a full refund of any payment received. Additionally, we are committed to praying for each of you during this season of uncertainty. Please know that you are in our thoughts and we would love to hear from you if we can serve you in any way. Thank you for being an important part of the LCU Summer Camp family. We hope to see you virtually this summer, in person in November, and next June!
